Building Shed Slabs

If you’re planning to build a large shed on your property, you will need a solid foundation to build on. A concrete shed slab will give you the best possible base to build on and secure the shed structure.

Our team is experienced in building shed slabs across the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Toowoomba and Northern NSW regions. We can also resurface your existing shed slab to give it a fresh new look.

Planning for the slab

Before any slab is poured, it’s important to establish the shed that will be built on it. Many sheds are designed in different ways and have varied requirements. When choosing a shed, look at the manufacturer’s requirements in terms of slab thickness, dimensions and how it will be attached to the slab or fastened to prevent movement.

Some shed companies use nominal sizing, meaning the size is approximate. Double-check with the manufacturer that it is 100 percent accurate before purchasing the shed.

You will need to prepare the area that the slab will be poured on. This will involve digging out the ground to set up a level work area. Often it is best to have your concreter perform the earthworks so it saves time and money for the job. If the ground is sloped, this will require cutting and filling to establish a level space and allow for erosion.

DIY or Professional Concreter

With all the handyman TV shows showing today, it may be tempting to DIY your shed slab to save money and give yourself some personal satisfaction for building the shed.

You can certainly buy the equipment from Bunnings and hire a concreting contractor to deliver the concrete. But, preparing the site and laying it can be a challenge. The amount of physical work required together with the installation and pouring can be tricky. If you make a mistake such as a slab that is not level or inaccurate in its dimensions and thickness, this can be a costly error.

Some solid can be reactive so it’s important to check if this will cause movement and potential cracking of the slab. Your concreter can advise on how to manage this step with an inspection. This may include the employment of a testing service. An engineer can test the soil and advise on steps required to support the slab.

A professional concreter has the experience and skills in building shed slabs right the first time and deliver a high-quality result. You will have peace of mind, it’s right and will last for many years to come. Our team has more than 27 years of experience in concreting with many jobs completed.

You may require assistance in building the shed as well as this will involve the use of tools and ensuring the shed is square and firmly attached to the slab. Some manufacturers will provide this service as an additional charge so speak with them when you choose your shed.
